Southampton is a wonderful place where I have found great supervisors and experienced true friendship. It is not just a university for me to improve academically. It is also a journey destination for me to explore myself and become a mature person.

Ms. Phuong Ngo has been a PhD student in Modern Languages and Linguistics since November 2015 at the University of Southampton.

I got my BA in English Teaching in Vietnam and had one year as an exchange student in University of Southern Indiana, USA. In 2011, I took an MA in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching at the University of Southampton. I came back to Southampton in November 2015 and have carried out my PhD research since then.

Research interests

My main research interests are English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) at tertiary level. Currently, I am working on my PhD research on EMI in Vietnamese universities, which focuses on investigating the perceptions of lecturers and students of this language policy and practice.
