Hi, I'm Neal Trevor Reeves and I studied BA Language Learning within Humanities at the University of Southampton.

I knew Southampton had a good reputation, but this course seemed a lot more flexible than in other places - I knew I wanted to study linguistics and languages but there were a lot of restrictions on courses in other Universities.

Why did you decide to come to Southampton to study?

I knew Southampton had a good reputation, but this course seemed a lot more flexible than in other places - I knew I wanted to study linguistics and languages but there were a lot of restrictions on courses in other Universities. Southampton was able to offer me a lot more diverse options and interesting modules.

What have been the highlights of your time here?

My highlights have been getting to learn a new language - I was able to study Portuguese from scratch - having interesting lecturers who are really enthusiastic, and spending my year abroad in Portugal which I'd never been to before I started.

Would you recommend others to stufy the programme here?

I would recommend the programme to others, people might say "what is BA Language Learning?" but you get to study such an interesting range of modules, that you may not get to experience on other course.

What are your ambitions for the future?

In October I'm starting an integrated PhD here at Southampton with the Electronics and Computer Science Department. It's a very inter-disciplinary programme, and I'm hoping to look at things relating to the use of languages on the internet and in education - very much a continuation of the research I have done throughout my degree. The skills I've gained in terms of research and languages will give me a great advantage, as I'd like to carry on in academic research.

What do you think about the teaching you recieved?

The lecturers are always keen to help students; they're fun and really interesting.
