I studied BA Music and Marketing at the University of Southampton. While at university I was also a co-presenter on a Surge Radio show, and I played in Southampton University Symphony Orchestra, Southampton Wind Orchestra, and other musical groups, and I was on the committees of most of these societies.

I have found that companies in the creative industry really value degrees like music, and I always felt that it was a major talking point in my interviews

I also helped to start Spilt inc., an online publication for aspiring writers, along with two of my fellow undergraduates. I contributed to the development of the website, but I mostly ran all the marketing and promotional activity. This included leaving a colourful spray-painted bike around campus, affixing recruitment posters on the back of toilet doors, and including a countdown on the website. I successfully applied to a marketing summer school after I graduated, and that’s what lead to my first job at an advertising agency.

I have found that companies in the creative industry really value degrees like music, and I always felt that it was a major talking point in my interviews. I’m now at BBC Studios based at the Television Centre working within marketing in Factual Entertainment, namely BBC Earth (all the Attenborough shows) and Top Gear. It’s a place I wanted to work when I first graduated, and somewhere that I really value the product.
