New Graduate Funding for 19th-Century Opera Project

Published: 13 March 2008

Music staff members Francesco Izzo and Mark Everist have just been awarded more than £150,000 in a bid to the AHRC.

The funds will provide three full-time PhD studentships for their project, Franco-Italian Cultural Transfer: Opera and Song, 1825-1850, which seeks to examine French works in Italy and Italian operatic culture in France in the 19th century. This collaboration between the University of Southampton and Opera Rara (London) will give the three doctoral students the opportunity to migrate successful musicological work into a performance and recording environment. Formal advertisement for the awards will take place during March and April.
