AHRC Fellowship for Stephen Rice

Published: 16 April 2008

Stephen Rice, director of the acclaimed early music vocal group the Brabant Ensemble, has just been awarded a 3-year AHRC Fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts to be held at Southampton.

Stephen's project, Performance, Aesthetics, and Compositional Technique in Continental Sacred Music, c. 1520-c.1560, will experiment with approaches to music whose contrapuntal language creates complex editorial and performance issues; concerts and recordings by the Brabant Ensemble and new editions of music by major mid-century composers will result. The fellowship begins in October 2008, when Stephen will join current early music AHRC Fellows Elizabeth Kenny, Nancy Hadden and Erin Headley at Southampton.
