Gordon Wins British Composer Award

Published: 4 December 2008

Southampton composer Michael Zev Gordon has won the award for the best composition in the Choral category for his piece This Night in the 2008 British Composer Awards.

Now in its sixth year, the Awards are sponsored annually by the Performing Rights Society (PRS), and are run in association with BBC Radio 3. The award was announced on 2 December in a ceremony hosted by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters at the Law Society, London, and was the focus of a BBC 3 broadcast the following evening. Sarah Rodgers of the BACS commented: “Once again, the British Composer Awards have reviewed a great swathe of new contemporary music and highlighted what the judges have identified as the most exciting and ear-catching work on offer. It is a dynamic time for British composition and we are immensely proud to be supporting composers in this way."
