Southampton's David Owen Norris featured in Parry film

Published: 19 May 2011

John Bridcut’s new film, The Prince and the Composer, features David Owen Norris, Southampton’s Head of Keyboard Studies and Professor of Musical Performance.

In the film, HRH the Prince of Wales investigates the life and music of Sir Hubert Parry, a composer whose works figure prominently in British ceremonial – including in the recent royal wedding. Pieces such as I was Glad and Jerusalem are well-known, but their creator remains unfamiliar to many British listeners.

Norris analyses Jerusalem at the piano to show the relationship between grammar, rhythm and melody. The Prince and the Composer airs on BBC 4 on 27 May.
