Piekut wins Outstanding Article Award
Southampton Music lecturer Benjamin Piekut has won the 2011 Outstanding Article Award from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), for his article, 'Deadness: Technologies of the Intermundane' (co-authored with Jason Stanyek, The Drama Review, Spring 2010, 14-38).
ATHE's website states that the award 'acknowledges scholarship marked by methodological sophistication, complex and critical engagement with dramatic texts and performances, focused inquiries, and possible directions for future scholarship in a particular area'.
In the article, Piekut and Stanyek investigate the ubiquitous phenomenon of posthumous duets - or, as they call them, 'intermundane collaborations' - in popular music to make broader claims about the nature of technologically mediated agency, corporeality and labour.
