Published: 20 February 2013

Edition Records Co-Founder and Artistic Director Dave Stapleton has been appointed as a Turner Sims Professor in conjunction with Turner Sims and the University of Southampton’s Music Department.

Since graduating in classical piano from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2002, Dave Stapleton has become an important figure on the UK jazz scene. A jazz pianist of unusual abilities, a composer of beautiful, lyrical tunes and film scores, a record producer - who brings to the music of others the same care and attention to detail that he lavishes on his own releases - a gifted photographer and the astute and intelligent co-founder of Edition Records, Dave Stapleton is an ideal candidate for this role.

Founded in 2008, Edition Records has developed a formidable reputation as one of the leading and most forward thinking jazz labels in the UK. With many albums in their catalogue, Edition exists to provide emerging talent and established artists a platform to promote their music and release pioneering new recordings. Driven by a love of the music as well as a passion for design and photography, Edition aim to achieve the highest quality in every aspect of a release and look set to confirm their reputation as the driving force behind European jazz.

In his Turner Sims Professorship, Dave will mentor and lecture University of Southampton music students as well as maintain a continued relationship with Turner Sims, presenting the highest quality music as part of the Turner Sims concert series.
