Auditions in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, October-November 2014

Dr Thomas Irvine will be visiting China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in October/November 2014 to audition and interview candidates for the University of Southampton's degree programmes in Music

Dr Thomas Irvine, the Music Department's Director of International Programmes, will be in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in October/November 2014 auditioning and interviewing candidates for all of the University of Southampton's degree programmes in Music:

  • International Foundation Year in Music
  • BA Music
  • BA Music (4-years with a year abroad)
  • Pre-Masters in Music (performance, composition or musicology)
  • MMUS in Music (performance, composition or musicology)
  • PhD in Music (performance, composition or musicology)

Dr Irvine will be able to make conditional offers of admission to successful candidates at Pre-Masters and MMUS level at the auditions/interviews.

Sunday, 19 October: Beijing, Central Conservatory of Music
Tuesday, 21 October, Xi'an, Shangxi Normal University
Sunday, 26 October, Shanghai, Shanghai Normal University
Wednesday, 29 October, Hsinchu, Taiwan, National Chiao Tung University
Saturday, 1 November, Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong

Candidates wishing to audition should book places with:

Audition/interview requirements:

  • Vocal and instrumental performance: 20 minutes, 2-3 pieces in contrasting styles
  • Pre-masters and MMUS Musicology, Composition: a 20 minute interview about your plans for further study. (Composers please bring scores).
  • PhD Musicology, Composition: a 20 minute interview about your plans for research. Please bring your CV and a short research proposal (3-4 pages) to the interview. (Composers please bring scores).

Very strong candidates may be eligible for scholarships of up to £3000. Applicants at PhD level may apply for Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships of £7,000 per year for three years.
