Izzo to lead complete Verdi edition

Published: 30 October 2014

Francesco Izzo (Associate Professor, Music), has been named as the new General Editor of the Works of Giuseppe Verdi. The Works of Giuseppe Verdi, co-published by the University of Chicago Press and Ricordi (Milan), is projected to be an opera omnia.

In addition to all twenty-eight operas (six of them in two versions), it will include Verdi's sacred music, songs, chamber music, and juvenilia. Publication of the Works of Giuseppe Verdi began in the early 1980s, and sixteen volumes are already available in print. Leading singers, stage directors, and conductors routinely use the editions for productions at opera houses around the world. Each volume comes with a rich critical apparatus and a historical introduction providing the most thorough research on Verdi's creative process and the social, political, and cultural context in which his works originated. Forthcoming volumes in the series include I due Foscari (2015) and Un giorno di regno (2016, in a critical edition by Izzo himself).
