Meet the Pianos
The Music department has released the first two videos in its new series, "Meet the Pianos." Professor David Owen Norris, Southampton's Head of Keyboard studies, provides lively tours of some of the instruments in our collection.
Southampton has a flourishing culture of historical keyboard performance research, and the first two videos are devoted to some fascinating 18th-century instruments: a 1781 square piano by Ganer and a 1796 Broadwood grand. Watch the videos to find out more about their construction and their use in the past and today.
