Paid Internships for Music Students

The music department is excited to announce four paid internships set up in a new collaboration with Turner Sims and the Careers and Employability Service Excel Internship Programme.

A new voluntary Arts Ambassadors scheme will also be open to all students.

Paid Excel Internship – Showcase Intern

The University of Southampton Music Department are looking for two motivated 2nd or 3rd year Music students to become Music Showcase Interns. The Showcase scheme is a platform to help give exposure to student performers within the Music Department which has history of developing world-class performers, including jazz singer Joe Stilgoe and Mercury-nominated, singer-songwriter Anna Calvi.

The role will involve the co-ordination and administration of the Showcase scheme and performances, booking and promoting performers, liaising with external enquirers and organising internal projects. The successful applicants will be organised and efficient, adaptable and independent, an enthusiastic advocate of music, and have a good grasp of standard IT packages.

The posts will commence on Monday 8th January 2018 through until Friday 20th July 2018 working 5 hours a week x 24 weeks through term time and vacation periods.

Paid Excel Internship – Programme and Marketing Intern

Turner Sims Southampton is looking for two enthusiastic 2nd or 3rd year Music students to become Programme and Marketing Interns. This is an amazing opportunity to join the Turner Sims team right here on the Highfield Campus; play a key role in the promotion of our world-class classical, jazz, world and folk music programmes and gain experience of working in the music industry first-hand!

The successful applicants will be organised and adaptable with an eye for detail, able to show initiative and work well with minimum supervision. This is a varied role, which involves compiling and designing concert programmes, sourcing advertising, writing blogs, producing reviews following live performances and contributing to print and digital marketing plans. You will need a good grasp of standard IT packages, social media, be willing to discuss advertising opportunities with companies and liaise with artists to obtain copy for the concert programmes.

Arts Ambassadors

Arts at University of Southampton are looking for Arts Ambassadors, a small, enthusiastic group of students from all disciplines and courses representing Arts at Southampton at public-facing events, creating written and visual content for our social media channels, and encouraging other students to get involved across Southampton and Winchester.
