PhD scholarships

The Department of Music at the University of Southampton invites applications for doctoral study in a department rated first in the 2014 REF exercise and placed first in the Guardian University League Table for 2020-21. Our doctoral graduates have been supported through these fully-funded schemes for which we currently invite application for research in any aspect of music, including composition and research-led performance.

The deadlines for each of the schemes are different, but each must be prefaced by admission to the doctoral programme in the Department of Music. We recommend approaching potential supervisors directly, as well as the Director of Graduate Programmes in the Department, Dr Matthew Shlomowitz (m.shlomowitz@soton.ac.uk), no later than 15 December 2019.

The Department offers supervision across the entire disciplinary field. Specific areas of research activity are outlined on the department website. See https://www.southampton.ac.uk/music/.
