Professor Francesco Izzo delivers a masterclass at the Maastricht Conservatorium in the Netherlands
On 22-24 January, Francesco Izzo (Music) delivered a masterclass on Gaetano Donizetti’s comic opera, L’elisir d’amore, at the Maastricht Conservatorium (The Netherlands). The masterclass introduced voice students, conductors, and music history students to the compositional process, editorial practices, and problems in performing early nineteenth-century Italian opera. Following an introductory lecture, Francesco worked at the piano, coaching the entire opera with voice students and assistant conductors. L’elisir d’amore will be produced in Maastricht in March, with students taking up all the main roles. Francesco's masterclass was organised in collaboration between Conservatorium Maastricht, Opera Zuid and the European Opera Academy.
