Ensemble Hesperi Wins Early Music Award
With her Early Music group, Ensemble Hesperi, Southampton postgraduate student Mary-Jannet Leith has won joint first prize in the London International Early Music Festival Young Ensemble Competition. Alongside Handel and Sammartini, their final performance showcased repertoire at the centre of Mary-Jannet's PhD research, including an air from Scottish eighteenth-century composer James Oswald. The ensemble received a cash prize, as well as a concert at next year's LIFEM Festival, and mentoring from Baroque violinist Margaret Faultless.
Although opportunities for live music-making may be few and far between for a while yet, Ensemble Hesperi will be live-streaming regularly on YouTube over the next few months as part of their series "Hesperi at Home". Visit their YouTube channel and website for regular updates:
