Students and staff from the University of Southampton perform songs by Dowland and the earliest surviving English opera.

For the past few months a group of students from the University of Southampton Music department have been working on staging a performance of the opera Venus and Adonis by John Blow. A nine piece instrumental ensemble comprising of strings, recorders and continuo accompany the chorus (Ellipsis Chamber Choir), and soloists. This evening of early English music will also include music by the Byrdsong vocal quartet, performing works by Dowland, Bennet, Morley and Farmer.

Donations at the door would be much appreciated (suggested donation: £3).
