Event details

Hazel Brooks (violin) and David Pollock (harpsichord)

Hazel Brooks and David Pollock present a programme of music from Restoration England, based around the colourful foreign virtuoso Godfrey Finger. Trained in the tradition of Biber and Schmelzer, he arrived in London in the 1680s and had a significant effect on English musical life, publishing the first ever instrumental sonatas in this country and making a name for himself in the theatre. His quirky mix of central European and English styles is contrasted with music by Purcell and other native composers of the time.
