Event details

This high-energy brass band give their debut Turner Sims performance

Bad Ass Brass was formed out of a passion for the music of New Orleans and features 8 of the UK's top jazz session musicians in a typical brass band line up. However, Bad Ass Brass sets itself apart from most street bands by playing their own original compositions and arrangements with a fierce understanding of jazz improvisation as well as wonderfully tight ensemble playing. Drawing inspiration from the big band era of the 1940's as well as classical chamber music, Bad Ass Brass is a truly unique and exciting musical experience.

Having just finished a UK Tour the band are about to record their first live album and we are delighted to have them visit the University of Southampton as part of our lunchtime concert series.

Jean-Paul Gervasoni, Paul Munday, Gavin Broom - Trumpets
Jon Stokes - Trombone and Vocals
Sam Bullard and Gemma Moore - Saxophones
Mike Poyser - Sousaphone
Jimmy Norden - Drums

Following today's concert, the band will lead a workshop with the Music Department's jazz and pop performance students. All are welcome to stay and watch.
