An exceptionally versatile musician and captivating performer, Clara Sanabras brings a refreshing twist to the folk tradition creating an unmistakable bluesy sound with a continental twist. Her voice and multi-instrumentalism feature in top Hollywood soundtracks such as

,
The Hunger Games
,
Snow White
and The Huntsman
and
The Lord of The Rings Concert
.
Born in France and raised in Barcelona before finally settling in London, Clara's new project returns her to her roots.
Songs of Spanish Exile
is an elegy to the experience of exile, told in Catalan and English. With flavours of folk, flamenco, classical and jazz, expect a visionary, musically expansive voyage.
Clara has used material from a University of Southampton LLAS led project called '
OpenLIVES
' 2011-2013, which included research data collected by Alicia Pozo-Gutierrez (Modern Languages) consisting of interviews with Spanish exiles including Los Ninos, the Basque children sent to England during the Spanish Civil war. There will be an exhibition of data and resources created by ML researchers as part of work on the Los Ninos/OpenLIVES project in the foyer of the Turner Sims
For this exclusive concert, Clara is joined by the University of Southampton's Community Choir, University of Southampton Voices, directed by Turner Sims Professor
Harvey Brough
. Formed through the Music Department, with the support from the Faculty of Humanities, today will be the choir's first staged performance in a Turner Sims concert and they will also give the first performance of new, specially-composed choral arrangements by Harvey.
