Event details

MMus performer, Kelly Childs, presents a selection of Donizetti, Schumann and Satie in the first half, followed by a contrasting programme of musical theatre songs from musicals such as Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, and jazz standards from Eva Cassidy and Manning Sherwin.

Kelly is in her penultimate month of her MMus degree at the University of Southampton, where she has been working on art song, classical, musical theatre music and jazz. She has previously studied at Bath Spa University for her BA Music degree, where she was involved in the music department’s performance of Puccini’s Suor Angelica. She has performed in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, O2 Brighton Dome and Bath Abbey with choirs throughout her education, and is currently working on her solo repertoire and learning more about vocal health and teaching. From September 2018 she is moving on to take her PGCE to become a secondary school teacher.

Accompanist Karen Kingsley:
Karen Kingsley was born in Fareham and now divides her time between Cosham, Ryde and the Isle of Wight. She studied with Jean Harvey at the Royal Academy of Music, gaining prizes and commendations for solo performances. She has previously performed concertos by Beethoven, Paul Carr, Chopin, Gerhardt, Gershwin, Grieg, Haydn, Mozart, Poulenc, Rachmaninov, Rubinstein, Saint-Saens and Shostakovich. Karen is a member of the Monington duo with clarinettist Robert Blanken and Anemos with Rob and bassoonist Richard Moore, who will give the world premiere of Suite by Mike Mower at Salisbury Cathedral in 2020. Karen also loves accompanying students at Southampton university for degree recitals. She regularly works with young players at music festivals and on courses.
