Event details

We are delighted to welcome Yazz Ahmed to the Music Department’s lunchtime concert series as part of a Faculty of Arts and Humanities 'Artist in Residence' day.

Yazz Ahmed

Yazz Ahmed is a British-Bahraini trumpet player and composer. Blurring the lines between jazz and electronic sound design, combined with the sounds of her mixed heritage, Yazz has created an intoxicating and compelling new genre, ‘psychedelic Arabic jazz’. Yazz's latest album Polyhymnia (released via Ropeadope) - dedicated to courageous women from across the globe is described as 'effortlessly beautiful' - Clash Magazine.

Her career is studded with high profile collaborations, which have seen her record and perform with the likes of Radiohead, Lee Scratch Perry and These New Puritans. She has also appeared as a guest soloist and composer with Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra.

Yazz Ahmed will perform live with acclaimed bassist, Dave Manington, at lunchtime in Turner Sims. She will then lead an informal Q&A session from 2pm which all are welcome to attend.

Free admission – no advance tickets or registration required.
