"Music, Media, Memory"

This lecture explores cinematic representations of memory. Audiovisual media have shaped modern culture partly by changing the culutre of memory. This change rests in no small measure on the menmonic powers of music to recall events and people, ideas and emotions. Throughout the history of cinema, directors have deployed these powers not only to tell a story but also to explore the specific nature of film as a modern medium.
