Hi, I'm Toby Ellis and I studied BA Music within Humanities at the University of Southampton.

I’ll be releasing my album, gigging, selling the album and really trying to build a career doing that. I’m also planning on applying for BBC Radio apprenticeships, as it would not only be good work experience but an opportunity to meet lots of contacts.

Why did you come to Southampton to Study?

Southampton was the most open-minded University of all the ones I visited. I’m a drummer and a guitar player; I do pop music – most of the other Universities didn’t even own a drum kit, let alone support pop music! I came to visit the University and nothing else compared.

What have been the highlights of your time here?

A highlight for me was the Commercial Composition module I took in the third year, I was able to write and record my first album which is really exciting. I’m just brushing it up now at home, and will be able to release it soon. It’s great to have something physical and practical to have come out of University with – a product, rather than just a sheet of paper.

Would you recommend the programme to other?

I would definitely recommend the course to others – come with determination, all of the resources are here, and don’t be afraid to ask “can I use the studio?”, everything is here if you want it.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I’ll be releasing my album, gigging, selling the album and really trying to build a career doing that. I’m also planning on applying for BBC Radio apprenticeships, as it would not only be good work experience but an opportunity to meet lots of contacts.

Describe your time here in three words:

EYE OPENING, FUN, SELF-DISCOVERY
