Installation update, commissioning and initial trials

Published: 10 September 2010

Commissioning and scanning trials were originally expected to commence in July /Aug. After a number of installation delays we can now report that we have started using the 'HMX' (225kV) system.

We have further information regarding the capabilities of the individual systems, please refer to the PDF in the Useful Downloads section to the right.

The high energy system (450kV hutch) development is still subject to review: we currently understand that the system should be available for trials in November.

Earlier in the year we invited key user representatives to put forward interesting/high impact projects. We are following up on these applications now, however scheduling remains somewhat fluid due to ongoing commissioning work on the 450kV system. We believe we have sufficient projects in hand for the current commissioning period, however, we remain open to suggestions for targeted high impact work (supporting rapid publication, proposal writing etc.) - see the scanning proposal proforma on our request form.

We are planning for an internal (University of Southampton) launch event in January '11: details TBC.
