Research interests

  • The intersection of consumer behaviour theoretics and perspectives from sociology and gender studies
  • The cultural and sociological aspects of consumption and markets, particularly concerning the(re)production and transformation of social stratifications along the lines of different identity markers such as gender, religion, and class — with implications for reinforcing or challenging existing systems of privilege or oppression in contemporary societies
  • Power dynamics of consumption, including how markets, policy, social marketing, and marketing practices, in general, can perpetuate/resolve intersectional inequities
  • The sociohistorical shaping of gendered citizen-consumers subjectivities and the role played by neoliberalism and different institutional actors in shaping this trajectory
  • Sociological and political aspects of tourism marketing and tourism in general
  • Qualitative research methods such as historical/archival analysis, discourse analysis, focus group discussions, interviews, projective techniques, etc.
