Dr Jing Huey Khor BEng, PhD

Dr Jing Huey Khor is an Assistant Professor at the University of Southampton Malaysia and a visiting academic at the University of Southampton, UK.

She joined the university as a lecturer in 2014 and currently she teaches different subjects that include Digital Systems, Electronic Engineering Design, and Advanced Programming Modules. She has received her BEng degree in Electrical Engineering (Electronic) with First Class Honours from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) in 2009 and a PhD degree for research on passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) security at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2013. She has served as a technical committee member for a number of international conferences, and as a reviewer of IEEE journals. Starting 2020 she will be a visiting researcher at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) under the International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF) Program of the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies. During her early research career, she has focused on designing lightweight cryptographic protocols for RFID systems. Starting the year of 2016, she has been actively designing privacy preserving protocols for communication between IoT devices and blockchain, designing new consensus algorithms and decentralized application for IoT purposes. Up till now, she has supervised 5 Master students and 3 summer interns in the area of cyber-security, and currently is co-supervising a PhD student in machine learning in the area of electronic design automation.

The ideal candidate should have at minimum an excellent bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline, and be proficient in English. Enhanced Zero Knowledge Proof to Preserve Privacy in Blockchain Technology

Project description:

Although blockchain technology offers a lot of benefits for Internet of Things (IoT) network in terms of security, there are a number of barriers to its widespread adoption. One of these barriers is its pseudo-anonymous feature and it is susceptible to linking attack. The aim of this project is to analyze the existing zero knowledge proof (ZKP) algorithms in blockchain technology and to redesign ZKP algorithm in order to improve blockchain scalability and cost. ZKP algorithms can be used to verify a transaction without the need to expose their private inputs. However, the work involved in generating a ZKP is computationally intensive. The focus of this project will be on designing an efficient zero knowledge proof algorithm that can be supported by resource constrained IoT devices.
