Dr Md Hakim Ali is an Assistant Professor of Finance and Business Analytics and is also a Lab Coordinator at the Southampton Malaysia Business School, University of Southampton Malaysia.

Dr Md Hakim Ali has received PhD from Taylor’s University in the area of Finance and Banking, his project-based doctoral research addresses how cybersecurity hazards increase banking operational risks in a technology-driven financial system and destabilise the global financial sector. He did MSc from INCEIF University and an Undergraduate from the University of Rajshahi.  

Hakim’s current research projects focus on regulatory technology to gain sustainable technology in new generations of the digitalized economy. The induction of regulatory technology carries profound importance as it can potentially reduce operational risk, minimise cyber risk, and enhance banking stability. He has experience in leading the university-sponsored research project. He is currently conducting a corporate governance project focusing on how effectively and efficiently cybersecurity risk can be taken care of to enhance financial stability.  

Hakim also plays various roles within the area of education and student experience, his role includes a lead Academic Integrity Officer (AIO) at Southampton Malaysia Business School, a Member of the Staff-Student Liaison Committee, and a Personal Academic Tutor. 

Research interests

His research articles published in well-ranked journals i.e. International Review of Financial Analysis, International Journal of Finance and Economics, Economic Modelling, Australian Economic Papers, Risk Management, Managerial Finance, Studies in Economics and Finance among others.  

His research area falls in the area of Risk management, Capital market, Cryptocurrencies, RegTech and Cyber Economics. His research output also got widespread media coverage by the Insurancenewsnet.com | AdvisorNEWS (USA) and The Financial Express (Bangladesh).
