Foundation Year Business

Our Business Foundation Year will give you the skills needed for a range of programmes at the University of Southampton Malaysia.

Introducing your course

Improve your English skills whilst you learn the fundamentals in economics, accounting, and statistics.

This programme draws from history, economics and the social sciences to give you a wide, interdisciplinary understanding of business, and the career paths available to you.

Our Business Foundation Year is an integrated undergraduate programme. This means that if you achieve the minimum marks required, you'll be able to progress onto year one of a selected undergraduate degree.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • learn key information in topics like: economics, accounting, business, mathematics and statistics
  • improve your English speaking and writing abilities through compulsory modules
  • progress to a selected business-related undergraduate course
  • gain key transferable skills like the ability to make critical, evidence-based arguments and the use of IT for research and communication

Programme Structure

This programme is made up of three semesters.

Upon successful completion, you'll be able to progress to year one of a selected, business-related, undergraduate degree programme.

Typical entry requirements

For 2023 entry

We accept a wide variety of international qualifications for entry onto our Business Foundation Year.

QualificationEntry requirements
IGCSE 5 B grades including Mathematics (excluding Moral Studies, Religious Studies)
SPM 5 B grades including Mathematics (excluding Moral Studies, Religious Studies)
IB MYP Grade 5 in 5 subjects including Mathematics (excluding Personal Project and Physical and Health Education)

Other equivalent qualifications (including international qualifications) will be considered, please contact a UoSM education counsellor or your preferred agent to understand more.

Selection process:

English Language Qualification

  • IELTS 5.5 overall, minimum 5.5 in all components, or UEC English B4 or equivalent, OR
  • Grade C in SPM 1119 English (cohort before 2021), SPM CEFR Level B2 or above (cohort from 2021 onwards), Grade C in GCSE English, Grade A in IGCSE English as a Second Language or equivalent.

Costs associated with this course

Students are responsible for meeting the cost of essential textbooks, and of producing such essays, assignments, laboratory reports and dissertations as are required to fulfil the academic requirements for each programme of study.
