Low Power Electronics - Enabling Technologies for a Smarter Future

Professor Bashir M. Al-Hashimi

Professor Al-Hashimi will deliver a guest seminar at the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus on Friday, 31 October, 2014.

Electronics and software have a tremendous impact on life, from the Internet to consumer electronics, healthcare and transportation. Embedded systems, many of which will be low-power mobile devices, will become one of the most powerful tools in tackling global societal challenges.

In this presentation, Professor Al-Hashimi will review some of the key innovative academic researches and industrial practices in low-power hardware and software that has been fundamental to the successful realization of hand-held digital electronic devices such as mobile phones. He will then describe some of the current researches he is leading at the University of Southampton, UK, that is developing methods and tools that will enable the design of higher performance and lower power consumption future embedded systems based on many-core processors technology. He will also discuss from a personal perspective why electronics offers rewarding and sustainable professional careers.

Admission to Professor Al-Hashimi public lecture is free but pre-registration is recommended. The lecture is on Friday, 31 October at the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus, at the EduCity@Iskandar, Johor.
