Research project: Design of Electronic Fingerprint of UHF RFID Tag for Counterfeit Protection Mechanism

Fake passport and ID card issue is prevalent throughout the world. Electronic passport (E-passport) is facing tracking and counterfeit attacks because of the vulnerabilities of radio frequency identification (RFID) tag in preventing passive attacks, such as skimming and eavesdropping attacks.

Counterfeit attack is the most serious issue for E-passport because it is able to threat the privacy and security of E-passport holder. The objectives of this research are to study on physical characteristic of tag that can be used as electronic fingerprint, to develop a mathematical model, and to analyse the efficiency of the mathematical model in detecting counterfeit tag. The research will mainly divided into 3 tasks, which consists of analysing physical characteristic of tags, developing mathematical model, and testing the performance of the mathematical model. The research outcome might enhance security and privacy protection at cross-border to detect counterfeit documents. The possession of a false identity document with improper intent will cause dangerous to nation and economy.
