Research project: Fabrication and characterisation of new semiconductor materials for biochemical sensing purposes

III-V semiconductor materials have a strong potential for the development of mid-infrared optoelectronic devices such as lasers or detectors operating between 2 and 5 µm. Nearly all molecules of importance to medicine and clinical chemistry have unique transmission and absorption windows in this region. Applications in this spectral range are found in various domains such as pollutant detection, infrared thermal imaging, lidars or optical countermeasures. Therefore, III-V semiconductor mid-IR optical devices such as lasers and sensors have significant potentials.
