Your arrival

Things to do before you arrive

You should now choose and apply for accommodation. Students can choose among the University-recommended accommodations – Student Village (SV) and Eco Nest. These are private accommodation and not part of the University campus.

Student Village (SV)

If you choose SV, you will receive an email from SV regarding room availability. Once you are decided, you will need to make a one-month deposit to secure your room. Subsequently you will receive an invoice for full payment to be made. Please inform the Student Office at least 7 working days before your arrival date by email to Enrol.Malaysia@soton.ac.uk or call +607-5602560.

Eco Nest

If you choose Eco Nest, you can contact Core Home directly at 012791 9556 (Look for Rynn) or leave an enquiry on their website http://unihome.asia. Core Home is a private company that manages student accommodation at Eco Nest.

Plan your arrival, and arrival at your accommodation

You will need to work out how you are getting to your accommodation. If you have registered for the meet and greet service, you will be met at Senai International Airport and taken to your accommodation, (applicable to both local and international students). You will need to complete the arrival form and email it to Enrol.Malaysia@soton.ac.uk

Induction week

During your first week there will be a variety of activities taking place to help you get to know both the academic and administrative staff based at the Malaysia Campus, as well as the surrounding area. There will be a range of planned activities to help you get to know your fellow students and these will also be attended by student representatives from other years. There will also be social events to add to your calendar. You are encouraged to participate in all of the planned induction activities. If you are unwell and cannot attend the induction, please notify the Student Office at 07-560 2560.

International Student

Set up a bank account

You will be supplied with a letter from your Student Office confirming your status as a student to allow you to open up a local bank account. In Malaysia, the currency is Malaysian Ringgit (RM). To open a local bank account, you will be required to have a minimum of RM500. International students can purchase a bank draft / banker's cheque with their name according to their passport written on it and use it as a deposit to open a bank account if they do not wish to carry a lot of cash around.

It can take up to two weeks or more for a bank draft to clear, it would therefore be sensible to bring RM 2,000 in cash to use in the first few weeks on campus.

Make sure you have had your vaccinations

We recommend that you visit your local practitioner to get advice on the vaccinations required before attending university.
