Buddy scheme

Please note the information on this page is designed for students who arrived in the UK in 2019. The information will be updated once the key dates and activities have been confirmed for students transitioning in 2020.

Note: The following information will give you an idea of what to expect when you transition to the UK.

Travelling to a different country and studying in a new environment is exciting, but we think you may appreciate getting a little extra help before and when you arrive. The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) will be providing the UoSM Buddy Scheme to help you to prepare for the Academic Year 2019-2020. The aim of this scheme is to help MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics, MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering and MEng Mechanical Engineering students to settle into living and learning at Southampton.

Your buddies

Your buddies are Lian Ming Goh (Aero), Priscilla Ting (Mech), Zhe Yong Teyo (Mech), Elwynn Tan (EEE) and Brandon See (EEE). Your buddies will initially communicate with you online. This will begin from 1st August 2019 and will continue until the 18th October 2019.

They will help you with any questions that you may have, for example - what to bring with you, the weather or travel in the UK. When you begin your third year at Southampton, your buddies will also meet you during the first three weeks to share their experiences, answer questions and help you to find the right people or resources to contact. A social event will take place in week one.

A Facebook group - UoSM Students + Buddies - 2019/20 - has been created to ease communication between you and your buddies. Feel free to join the group!

I mean seriously, you can ask me anything, from University related services, to the best places to eat in the city, I’ll try my best to answer your inquiries.
