Your arrival

Things to do before you arrive

Confirm your accommodation

If applicable, you should now apply for accommodation within the Student Village (SV), to be guaranteed a place. Once your application has been received by the SV, you will be informed by e-mail of room availability, and will be requested to make a one month deposit to secure your room. Subsequently you will receive an invoice for full payment to be made. Please inform the Student Office at least 7 working days before your arrival date by email to enrolusmc@soton.ac.uk or call +607-560 2560.

Plan your arrival, and arrival at your accommodation

You will need to work out how you are getting to your accommodation. If you have registered for the meet and greet service, you will be met at your destination airport and taken to your accommodation, (applicable to both local and international students). You will need to complete the arrival form and email it to Enrol.Malaysia@soton.ac.uk

Our Meet & Greet service is available on 29 and 30 September and 1 October 2016. If you arrive outside these dates, you email to Enrol.Malaysia@soton.ac.uk or call +607-560 2560.

Induction week

During your first week there will be a variety of activities taking place to help you get to know both the academic and administrative staff based at the Malaysia Campus, as well as the surrounding area. There will be a range of planned activities to help you get to know your fellow students and these will also be attended by student representatives from other years. There will also be social events to add to your calendar. You are encouraged to participate in all of the planned induction activities. If you are unwell and cannot attend the induction, please notify the Student Office at +607-560 2560.

International Student

Set up a bank account

You will be supplied with a letter from your Student Office confirming your status as a student to allow you to open up a local bank account. In Malaysia, the currency is Malaysian Ringgit (RM). To open a local bank account, you will be required to have a minimum of RM500. International students can purchase a bank draft / banker's cheque with their name according to their passport written on it and use it as a deposit to open a bank account if they do not wish to carry a lot of cash around.

It can take up to two weeks or more for a bank draft to clear, it would therefore be sensible to bring RM 2,000 in cash to use in the first few weeks on campus.

Make sure you have had your vaccinations

We recommend that you visit your local practitioner to get advice on the vaccinations required before attending university.
