I was able to transfer the skills learnt throughout my engineering degree into solving business problems.

What degree are you studying?

I am studying MEng Aeronautics & Astronautics/Semester Abroad

Why did you choose to do an internship?

I chose to participate in the Business Innovation Programme because I was interested to explore opportunities to interact with new people from various backgrounds and acquiring new knowledge and skills.

Which company did you choose?

I chose Autism Hampshire

What did the work involve?

The 6-week project was to focus on creating sustainable solutions to improve the public awareness of Autism and the organisation in the Hampshire region through social media. By the end of the project, we proposed several effective solutions such as compiling a social media marketing kit and creating a private FB group.

What did you learn from your internship?

This programme enabled me to put into practice an engineer’s natural talent: understanding the root problem. I was able to transfer the skills learnt throughout my engineering degree into solving business problems. Besides, I learnt to work together as a team with my peers who are from diverse backgrounds. This provided me with an opportunity to learn from everyone who are experts in their own field.

What were the most useful skills you

I believe team work and time management are some of the most useful skills I gained from the Business Innovation Programme. I had to juggle between academic studies and the project, which was a great opportunity for me to learn about prioritising my time.

How has it benefited your degree studies?

This programme has significantly exposed me to wider career possibilities as an engineering student. I believe all the skills learnt in university are useful and inter-transferrable between different fields.

Has it changed your ideas about what you will do in the future?

Yes! I am now very excited to learn more about the possibilities to apply my engineering skills in the business world.
