Hi, I am Hank and I am studying at the University of Southampton Malaysia, currently in my second year at the Malaysia Campus. I previously studied the Engineering Foundation Year here, prior to starting on my Undergraduate Degree.

My lecturers they are always sharing with us how they are active in solving world problems

Why did you choose University of Southampton Malaysia?

I chose to study at here because of the top quality education it can provide, which highly focuses on theory and practicality with labs.

How do you find your current course and what do you enjoy most about the programme?

I actually find my current course interesting and challenging at the same time, as I expected from a Top 100% Global University. What I enjoy most about my programme are the interests and research of my lecturers – they are always sharing their research with us and they are always active in solving world problems while being generous with sharing their approach of solving it with us in class.

What advice would you give to current Engineering Foundation Year students to help them prepare for Year 1?

I would suggest students in Year 1 to try to pump up their CVs with interesting competitions (even if you lost!) and attempt to apply for an internship during this year. Just because you are studying the Foundation Year, does not mean you cannot get an internship from Year 1 or Year 2 professors. Internships not only provide you an insight of what is to come for Year 1, but also allow you to understand your lecturers better to ease the tension during lectures!

I participated in a number of events during my Foundation Year and even won a couple

BlockchainSPIRIT Hackathon, Singapore

UoSM hosted OnCampus 'Hack the City event in Cyberjaya'

Merdeka Hackathon 2018

What were the best things about studying at the University of Southampton Malaysia?

The best things about studying in UoSM are definitely the exposure of environment, our lecturers here are friendly, they always recommend us the latest competitions to attempt, the newest research paper they are working on, and also an active community of students who are hosting their own events like TedX!
