NAMRIP in the upcoming ‘Pint of Science’ 2017 festival

Prof Myron Christodoulides prepares for his ‘Pint of Science’

The international ‘Pint of Science’ festival returns to Southampton for another year in 2017.

It runs from 15th – 17th May, where you can see 50 researchers from across the University in local pubs to cover a wide range of subjects. NAMRIP features in one of the keyOur Body events – ‘Superbugs: Can we stop them?’ with talks including:

  • ‘Unstoppable STIs’ – featuring Prof Myron Christodoulides - Gonorrhea is the second most commonly reported infectious disease and we are down to 1 recommended effective class of antibiotic to treat it. Prof Christodoulides has been working hard to try and develop a vaccine to prevent it - can he do it?
  • ‘Save our antibiotics’ – featuring Dr Kordo Saeed – Dr Saeed is a consultant microbiologist from Winchester Hospital. Join us to here from a doctor on the frontline in the war against microbial resistance.
  • ‘Contagium’ – featuring Dr Anand Fernadez - Health protection teams work tirelessly around the country to track and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Hear about the situation in our local area from Dr Fernandex, a Consultant in Health Protection at Public Health England.

Alongside main talks at every venue, each evening will also include a range of fun, science-related activities including live demos, stand-up comedy, art exhibitions, and a host of quizzes.

Tickets for Pint of Science activities in Southampton are available online from here with each evening costing only £4.
