Professor Tim Leighton and Global-NAMRIP’s multidisciplinary approach to tackling AMR are featured in the article ‘Engineering a superbug fightback’, published in ‘The Engineer’ on 8th November 2019.

The article by Jon Excell describes the vital role that engineers are playing in addressing the rise of the untreatable superbug. He also suggests that a global approach is required to tackle the issue, and goes on to describe NAMRIP as one of those at the forefront of driving this approach. Two multidisciplinary NAMRIP projects are featured. The first being Professor Leighton’s ultrasonic cleaning devices which will be supplied to sterile services departments at a number of NHS hospitals next year. The second is the ‘Mapping Microbes’ project including the film ‘In Our Hands’. Bringing together engineers, microbiologists, chemists and geographers, this team have raised awareness of the way contaminants are transmitted around a hospital.
