AMR Theme 3 Workshop - 'Understanding the real world interactions' - working towards a greater understanding of how differing environments and their uses influence the evolution, acquisition and spread of antibiotic resistance. Whether human and animal intestinal tracts, wounds in humans and animals, hospitals, care homes, transport systems and all the way through to waste water, agricultural and natural environments, understanding these environments and their role in resistance will help identify and target better prevention measures and management practices.
This informal session, chaired by Theme 3 Leader, Dr David Voegeli, is an opportunity for members to find out about the current activity in this theme, share expertise, plans and ideas for working together (and applying for funding) on Theme 3 topics such as:
- The role of the environment and host microbiome in influencing the evolution, acquisition and spread of AMR, and as a reservoir for resistance.
- AMR in outdoor environments, the host microbiome and the way people and human communities interact with the environment.
Dr David Voegeli and Dr Tom Secker will give an update on their NAMRIP pump priming project which is related to Theme 3 - "Pilot study to evaluate the efficacy of an ultrasonically activated water stream for wound cleaning of antimicrobial resistant biofilm infections"
