Fabrication of paper-based microfluidic devices

Dr Peijun He and Dr Ioannis Katis, Research Fellows at the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton, presented this research at the Global-NAMRIP Festival of Early Career Research on 25 June 2019. The poster can be downloaded via the 'Useful Downloads' link below.

 

Their poster decribes a paper-patterning technique which enhances the existing laser-based direct-write approach. This is achieved through the introduction of local deposition of photo-polymer.

The team believe this modified technique will enable a route for routine commercial-scale manufacture of paper-based microfluidic devices that can be used for a variety of diagnostics-related applications.
