Full Scale Bearing Test Rig

Construction of rig

A full scale axle-bearing test rig is currently being built at the University in collaboration with Perpetuum Ltd. and using funding from "WARNTRAK 672265 Horizon 2020-SMEINST-2-2014".

This rig will be able to run bearings removed from service and it will simulate the rail environment, e.g. speed up to 300 km/h and loads equivalent to the weight of the train. The rig is equipped with Perpetuum WSN to record and monitor bearing conditions and it will further progress our research on bearing failures.

nC2 staff are helping with the assembly of the rig on the Highfield Campus of the University.  Once operational Dr Ilaria Corni will continue to lead the ongoing research collaboration we have with Perpetum, further details of this research can be found here.
