About us

The NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC) was established in April 2008.

We are a team of managers, academics, clinicians, researchers and support staff managed by the NETSCC Board. We manage the identifying, prioritising, funding, delivery, publication and dissemination of high quality research and lead other National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) initiatives to meet the needs of the public, patients and the NHS.

We have a distinctive approach – adding-value, needs-led and science-added. "Needs-led" means that research addresses questions of importance to the NHS and public health. "Science-added" ensures that research generates high-quality evidence. This approach is an intensive form of research management, spanning the identification and prioritisation of needs, rigorous peer review, and monitoring of projects. However, the approach greatly increases the value of research findings.

The research that our programmes fund has a major impact: it is published in the world’s leading journals and it makes measurable differences to people’s lives and the quality of health services.
