University to appeal against patent decision
The University of Southampton is to appeal against a decision by the UK Patent Office to award a patent covering aspects of controlled source electromagnetic imaging for the detection of offshore hydrocarbon reservoirs to the Norwegian oil group Statoil. The University has an automatic right of appeal against the decision, which it intends to exercise.
Researchers at the University of Southampton have been working on Controlled Source Electromagnetic Imaging methods and surveys and their geophysical applications for many years and have a substantial history of research and development in this area.
The University is actively preparing Grounds of Appeal to challenge a decision it regards as wrong.
