Winchester School of Art becomes an Apple Authorised Training Centre

Published: 4 November 2008

Students at the University of Southampton's school of art are getting a boost to their future careers with an opportunity to gain a prestigious professional qualification as part of their studies.

Winchester School of Art (WSA) has gained accreditation as an Apple Authorised Training Centre for Education (AATCe) and now offers all its Level 2 BA students the chance to gain Apple Pro Certification status, Apple's own user certification.

The AATCe Programme is aimed at education organisations with an excellent track record and which use Apple professional software solutions. Selection as an authorised centre is based on a number of criteria including curriculum quality and recognition, facilities, equipment, staff expertise and infrastructure.

All WSA students who choose to study a new module in digital practices and theory will attend a lecture series on digital media and the moving image which will be followed by Apple training sessions in WSA's dedicated media suite.

Professor Bashir Makhoul, Head of Winchester School of Art, says: "This world-wide industry-recognised certification underlines our reputation for high-quality teaching in digital media.

"Most importantly, it will allow our students to distinguish themselves as professional-level users of the key industry software used by professionals in the film industry and give them a highly competitive edge in the job market. The employability of our students is crucial as they prepare for successful careers in the highly competitive design and new media industries."
