Southampton remains in top 20 of Good University Guide
The University of Southampton has been ranked 20th in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020.
Southampton retained its top 20 position despite much competition, dropping slightly on last year (ranking 18), while remaining the second highest performing university in the South East, with just Oxford ahead in the regional table.
Improvements were made in many areas, including student experience, up 13 places (61) based on data from the National Student Survey (NSS).
Fourteen subject areas across the University improved their position this year with 11 taking top ten places in their groupings, such as Physiotherapy (1), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (3), Music (3) and Civil Engineering (5).
The
Good University Guide
, which is published annually, provides rankings for UK universities, with the aim of giving an overview of higher education in the country.
These latest results come after Southampton held its 20th place in the 2020 Complete University Guide and achieved a ranking of 24th in the 2020 Guardian University Guide. The University also retained its place in the world’s top 100 universities after placing 97th overall in the QS World University Rankings 2020.
League tables measure the University on a range of criteria, including entry standards, student satisfaction, staff to student ratio, expenditure on facilities and resources and research quality.
