University of Southampton preparing for industrial action in November and December 2019

Published: 18 November 2019

Members of the University and College Union (UCU) at 60 UK universities, including the University of Southampton, have voted to support industrial action over the national issues of pay and pension reform in the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). Initially, the action is planned to start on Monday 25 November and extend across 26, 27, 28 and 29 November and 2, 3 and 4 December 2019.

Meeting our commitments to our students and providing every opportunity for them to achieve their potential is always our highest priority. We will work with the Students’ Union and colleagues throughout the University to put in place the arrangements necessary to minimise disadvantage to our students as a result of any industrial action and to ensure that they continue to receive a world-class education.

A dedicated information hub has been set up to ensure that all our students can keep up-to-date with developments and know who to contact to get the information most relevant to them (for example, whether specific lectures will be affected by the proposed industrial action). Students and staff can access this hub here using their University login details.

If you are a visitor and planning to attend an activity at the University of Southampton during the period of proposed strike action, please check with the organisers of your event to ensure that it is proceeding as planned.

All of our colleagues care deeply about the education of our students and the wider activities of our University, and we will work to minimise the impact of any action on our community.
