University of Southampton preparing for industrial action in February and March 2020

Published: 12 February 2020

Members of the University and College Union (UCU) at 74 UK universities, including the University of Southampton, have voted to support further industrial action over the national issues of pay and pension reform in the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). The action is planned to start on Thursday 20 February, with further action taking place on 21, 24, 25, 26 February and 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 March.

Meeting our commitments to our students and providing every opportunity for them to achieve their potential is always our highest priority. We will work with colleagues throughout the University to put in place the arrangements necessary to minimise any disadvantage to students as a result of any industrial action.

The dedicated information hub will continue to be updated to ensure that all our students can keep up-to-date with developments and know who to contact to get the information most relevant to them (for example, whether specific lectures will be affected by the proposed industrial action). Students and staff can access this hub here using their University login details.

If you are a visitor and planning to attend an activity at the University of Southampton during the period of proposed strike action, please check with the organisers of your event to ensure that it is proceeding as planned.

All of our colleagues care deeply about the education of our students and the wider activities of our University, and we will work to minimise the impact of any action on our community.
