Ukraine update

The current situation in Ukraine is the cause of deep concern and anxiety for many in our staff, students and wider community. We are monitoring the situation closely and continue to provide practical and pastoral support to our students and staff, particularly those with connections to Ukraine and Russia.

We are proud to be an international community that considers respect and support for our colleagues, students, and wider community to be vital in everything we do.

Support for staff

Our support for staff includes:

  • EAP - a 24/7 confidential service for all staff who need support with mental health, wellbeing or stress related issues. Calls are handled by qualified counsellors and advisors.
  • Togetherall - provides a 24/7 online, anonymous safe space where you can discuss any issues and worries you may have with the Togetherall community.
  • our wellbeing resources and advice.

Support for students

General support

We encourage students with concerns to contact the Student Hub, who can outline support available - including financial, accommodation and assessment support - as well as support for their wellbeing and mental health.

Additional support can be found at:

Homes for Ukraine

The UK Government has created two visa schemes for Ukrainian nationals seeking refuge in the UK:

  1. The ‘Ukrainian family scheme,’ which requires family ties in the UK.
  2. The ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme, which has opened for phase one (individual sponsorships) and will shortly open for phase two (organisation sponsorships).

The University plans to participate in phase two of the Homes for Ukraine scheme. We have developed a package of support for students from Ukraine who require sponsorship. This will accelerate our ambition to become a University of Sanctuary. The comprehensive support package is ready to roll out as soon as phase two opens.

As a university, we are committed to setting up this scheme of support and it is our priority.

If you would like to register your interest for the above, or if you would like to sign up to our email list so we can get in touch when we have updates on our support for Ukraine click here.

Please note, completing this form does not guarantee support or in-year transfers, it is purely to enable us to update you with information.

How to help

In Southampton, the Polish Social Club  are taking donations such as nappies, warm blankets and sanitary products which will be sent to Medyka on the Polish-Ukrainian border. Please check the Council website for the latest information.

For those wishing to make financial donations, you may want to consider well-established organisations such as  UNICEF, the UN Refugee Agency, or The British Red Cross.

We are aware there are fraudsters who will try and take advantage of a crisis situation in the form of scams, so as always please remain alert to possible scams and fraud.
