I will be developing automated computer vision algorithms to detect and count wildlife in images collected from UAV's and satellites. In particular I will be investigating the application of Deep Learning algorithms, which have been reported to provide a step increase in performance compared to prior-art image recognition methods.

Working in collaboration with the British Antarctic Survey, we will initially be focusing on surveying seals, penguins and albatross, with the possibility to extending to other wildlife and habitats over the course of the project.
