Dr Clément Vic is a postdoctoral researcher in Physical Oceanography within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

I am currently working on the RidgeMix project, which aims to understand and quantify the upward transport of nutrients in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Specifically, it seeks to test the hypothesis that turbulence and mixing occuring over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) can supply the nutrients required to sustain primary production across the entire subtropical gyre. My work consists in quantifying kinetic energy dissipation and mixing on/off the ridge, and understand processes responsible for dissipation. To do so, I use Vertical Microstructure Profilers (VMP) in-situ measurements as well as submesoscale-resolving numerical simulations (ROMS).

Research interests

• Mesoscale to submesoscale dynamics
• Deep ocean mixing
• Internal waves
